If you're doing fan art, or fanfic, or any other fanwork

You are valid. Fan works are valid. Don't let any other creator tell you otherwise or call you a "copy machine artist" or "copy machine writer" or call your work "redundant". A lot of people have improved their craft through fan work, and a lot of people have been given great professional opportunities by being fan artists and writers or creators.

Okay, that's most of what I want to say about it. I just want to get it out of my chest because there's a high possibility that it would have been me being meaner about it haha. There is a lot more I wanna say, but I feel this one is more important in the grand scheme of things. For those who have endured my vent, you already know though.

Also, as I'm writing this, I've been listening to the free Stardew Valley 10th Anniversary Concert on YouTube. Yay fanworks! Personally, I consider orchestral covers of songs very hit or miss, but this one works so nicely.

Also that Stardew Valley scarf is so beautiful.

Seeing this kind of dismissal in comic fandom is honestly even funnier than normal because it's like...my brother in christ all Superhero comics are fanfiction at this point.

On top of how "Feeling like fanfiction" and what not is usually just code for "It doesn't feel like it was made for my male dominated space and like it was made for an audience outside of me specifically"

Originality has always been actually derivative but some people have this weird idea that you should be shitting shit out of your own ass (what the fuck am I saying... but you know what I mean lmao)

In my case some art purists really tick me the hell off...a lot of masters have made bank by making actual Jesus fanart that people have been recycling and praying at after centuries
